Design, prototypes and product

My favourite types of projects are the ones where I see my sketches evolve into something more. For these projects I’ve used my sketchbook, programs like Adobe illustrator, and for the physical components; cardboard, bottle caps, wood, and so much more!

The samurai of the forest

The idea for my creation was a mask based on a samurai. The samurai would have animal characteristics, like the antlers of a deer. As I brainstormed and sketched, I began to add nature elements to the samurai, e.g branches leaves, etc., and also decided to make the top portion of samurai armour. This was for my Foundations of 3D Design and Fabrication course. The assignment was to create a mask or organic piece using laser-cut or 3d printed parts, students could also use additional materials.

Squirrelzilla

The theme of this assignment was origami. Student were to create a sculpture by only using pieces cut out from a 60 x 60 cm piece of plywood. I wanted to do animal since many origami creation are of animals, and decided on a squirrel. Although first I created a prototype so I could plan how I was going to cut the square. This was for my Foundations of 3D Design and Fabrication course.

Multimedia videos

Thus far in my academic career, I’ve created videos with various multimedia components. For this, I’ve used the applications Max MSP and DaVinci Resolve.

Hung the moon

This was a project for my Multimedia Asset Creation class. The assignment was to create a matte painting with moving components. This video project is based on the saying “Hung the moon”. However, instead of a still moon, I decided to have the moon swing in the sky like a pendulum and its reflection. I wanted to do the scene at night because it is a calming setting. The pendulum reminded me of a moving clock.

This project was made using Gimp, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve.

Time passes

This was a project for my Media Signal Processing class.

The assignment was to create a 2 minute piece that used particle systems to create a dynamic audio visual piece based on a original Haiku. The Haiku had to have a three-line format with 17 syllables arranged in a 5–7–5 pattern.

The piece illustrates the feeling of time passing and things changing, but no real progress is made.

This project was made using Max MSP.

Hearts

This was a project for my Media Signal Processing class.

The assignment was to create a piece that integrates sound and 3D graphic-based visuals. The visuals were meant to respond to and complement the music.

The piece illustrates the feeling of loving someone you are constantly at odds with.

Sound

I’ve had the opportunity to work solely with sound with both Max MSP and DaVinci Resolve, and it’s something I enjoyed immensely since it allowed for a lot of experimentation.

A Tirade of Love

This was a project for my Multimedia Asset Creation class.

My piece is called A Tirade of Love. This is about a relationship that has been stretched beyond its breaking point. The narration along with the composition is sorrowful, calm, and yet there is confidence, as the speaker speaks of what he knows to be the painful truth. It is a mockery of one’s hubris, meant to humble, as well as address fear or a lack of love. The composition conveys a sad and angry acceptance as well as will and strength. The violin is what makes one sorrowful, the guitar pushes one through, and the shake keeps one engaged. The relationship is a familial one, yet the piece can be applied to any relationship.

The poem was written and recorded by my brother Jason Oduro and was inspired by a fantasy story he is working on. I recorded the guitar and shaking sound, which is of a pill bottle. The violin is a B4 note taken from freesound.org, and modified.

This piece was made using DaVinci Resolve.

Love 2

This was a project for my Intro to Interactive Digital Media I class.

The assignment was to create a piece that organized and played sound according to rules, and course techniques taught in class. The piece was meant to be a sound collage/montage, inspired by Musique Concrete. It also needed to incorporate some real-world sounds or noises.

This project was made using Max MSP.

Other Art Works

Whether is be on canvas or screen, these are my creations!

The first four paintings are from an final art assignment is highschool.

I decided to do paintings of authors who have written about discrimination and prejudice.
The authors are Harper Lee (To Kill a Mocking Bird), Anne Frank (The Diary of Anne Frank), Ernest J. Gaines (A Lesson Before Dying), and Angie Thomas (The Hate u Give).

The large head was made for a high school assignment. The assignment was to create a model head of a celebrity. I chose the Jackie Robinson.

The portrait of me in purple was made in Inkscape.
